Laura is staying with her sister, Fran, awaiting the arrival of Fran's baby. To pass the time, Laura answers a job advertisement in the local newspaper for a temporary secretary. She finds her prospective employer, the famous concert pianist Misha Berenson, disillusioned as a result of an accident. But as he fights to come to terms with the fact he might never play the piano again, it soon becomes apparent that he has more to contend with than physical and mental scars.
