The coming of strangers, a sick man and a young girl, divided the townsfolk of Gabriel. It was the revelation of just who this man was that caused the sensation. Purnell, the town marshal, was expected either to banish the strangers or bear responsibility for the trouble which must surely come. When indeed violence did explode, not only was Purnell exposed to danger, but his wife and son as well. And before long, Gabriel was torn asunder.
