Why Men Die

(2020)
(The fourth book in the Halliday series)
A Novella by

After months on the trail, Buck Halliday and his friend Dave Lester, had finally delivered a rancher’s cattle herd to market. Now they had cash in their pockets and a hankering to spend it on women and booze. But then they were attacked by a bunch of riders, and in the fight Dave stopped a bullet. Halliday managed to get him to the town of Heathaze, but if he thought that was the end of their problems, he had to think again.
Heathaze was ruled by a beautiful woman named Charity Rowland, but Charity had brothers – both of them outlaws of the worst stripe.
Halliday didn’t want to tangle with them, but when he was robbed and beaten, that made it personal. And when the Rowland boys hit the local bank, Halliday went right after them.
But not alone.
An old-timer decided to stand right alongside him. And so did Charity herself ... against her kinfolks.

Adam Brady was one of many pseudonyms used by prolific Australian writer Desmond Robert Dunn (6 November 1929-5 May 2003). In addition to four crime novels published under his own name, Des was a tireless western writer whose career spanned more than fifty years and well in excess of 400 oaters. These quick-moving, vivid and always compelling stories appeared under such pen-names as Shad Denver, Gunn Halliday, Adam Brady, Brett Iverson, Matt Cregan, Walt Renwick and Morgan Culp. He is also said to have written a number of the ever-popular Larry Kent P.I. novels, but at this late date author attribution is almost impossible. He married and divorced twice, and had three children. He died at the age of 73 in Brisbane, Queensland.
