The murder case is a district attorney's dream. Georgine Goodfellow, middle-aged, still beautiful, and the mother of three, has shot her husband dead, though for no reason she can sensibly explain to the police. Nonetheless, she has confessed to the crime, and Assistant District Attorney Jack Meehan has the job of mopping up. Meehan, however, smells a rat and, despite discouragement from the highest quarters, pursues his hunch.
