Reminiscent of a 21st-century Mrs. Dalloway, the life of an elderly woman who is potentially suffering from Alzheimer's is presented in this novel. Her declining mental state is revealed through ramblings about the Siamese twin goose served for Christmas one year and the need to keep the goose/gander a secret, her views of a family member's moral character, and other goings-on in the woman's life. Skillfully swerving in and out of her internal monologue, the narrative shifts back and forth from past to present and articulates the voice of a supposedly inarticulate character in a gripping and unexpected way.
