The folk of Perkinsville had all turned out to watch Harry Hadfield hang- they didn't like men who killed women! Then a mysterious masked rider spirited Harry away from the rope at the last moment. The dead girl was of dubious character - any one of her beaux could have strangled her, and Harry's brother, Pete, was convinced that a just verdict in a court would clear Harry's name. Hatred against Harry was strong, especially from the dead girl's brother, Wally Bliss, and no-good gunny, Mick Laverty, so when Pete set off to bring Harry back to town events turned sour.
