Many of the poems in this book are about relationships, the way two people come together and drift apart and then come together again, a sensual rhythm that strengthens the bond even as it lets go. Some of the poems are clearly autobiographical, about the poet's childhood and the feelings she still has for the parents who have departed. There are steamy poems too, of travel and romance, and a section of poems that deal head-on with the political problems of the modern world.
