Eleanor Myers's contented life in the country is thrown into turmoil when her new stepmother decides it is time she acquired all the accomplishments deemed necessary to find a husband. Reluctantly dispatched to her formidable godmother in London, Eleanor must not only cope with the unrelenting lessons covering tedious skills, but also with the irritating behavior of two additional houseguests and her godmother's handsome but arrogant nephew, James. Eleanor's annoyance soon turns to suspicion when - during her hectic whirl of social engagements - a potentially fatal series of incidents befalls both her and James. Can a bitter legal dispute over James's inheritance, a thwarted blackmail attempt, and a wronged husband all be the accidents they seem?
