Now that Tesla Abbott has been revealed as the girl who can time travel, her life is a nightmare of epic proportions. The paparazzi are hideous enough, but every relationship she cares about seems on the verge of utter ruin. She knew when she saved her mother's life that she was changing the future, but it's been altered in ways she never imagined. Her father is largely absent now; Max, her ebullient little brother, is subdued and self-destructive; the idealized mother Tesla dreamed of is far from the reality of the woman who is now a part of all their lives. Tesla's friends are different, too. Finn's integrity is inexplicably tarnished in this new present, Sam has abandoned his dreams of medical school, and Keisha is a stranger, no longer her confidante. Tesla finally gets why people say be careful what you wish for, as she starts to wonder if her mother's life is worth the destruction of everyone else's. In the midst of all her worries, Tesla is taken by the government, subjected to "enhanced interrogation" that will change her forever, and she has become the target of a religious group that views time travel - and Tesla herself - as an abomination. She is forced to run, to use the survival skills she's learned from the agency as well as her uncanny abilities which finally feel right, truly a part of her. As dangerous forces close in and love, friends and family seem forever out of reach, Tesla will have to decide for herself what she owes others and what, if anything, she owes herself. In the end, the choices she makes will remake the world.
