Craig William Emms

Craig William Emms was born in Coventry in 1960 and is a former British Army sergeant-turned-novelist.

He has written many books covering both fiction and non-fiction, and has contributed articles and columns to a wide range of newspapers and magazines in the United Kingdom and overseas. His books include the acclaimed John Smith Series which is serialised as e-books and paperbacks, and is published by Cold Fish Books.

Craig enrolled in the British Army as a Junior Leader at sixteen years of age. He served in both the regular army and the Territorial Army Volunteer Reserve for many years and attained the rank of sergeant.

Since leaving the British Army, Craig has gained a Master of Science Degree in Ecosystems Analysis and Governance at the University of Warwick. He has worked as an ecologist on several international expeditions to Norway, France, Belgium, Madeira and the Chagos Archipelago in the Indian Ocean.

He lived and worked in The Gambia, West Africa from 1999 to 2006, as a founding member and the Executive Director of the Gambian wildlife charity Makasutu Wildlife Trust (MWT). As a part of his duties he designed and supervised the building of the Darwin Field Station for Biodiversity Research, Education and Training in Abuko Nature Reserve, with a grant awarded to the University of Warwick and MWT by the Darwin Initiative of the UK Governments Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
