Gunslinger Pete Symonds seems unable to avoid trouble, which usually leaves a trail of corpses in his wake. Then, seeking a quieter life, he ends up in cattle country but is soon sucked into the explosive rivalry between two large spreads. Reluctantly, he is persuaded to take the place of Hardwick's town marshal and faces the hostility of a scheming and powerful saloon owner and the knowledge that the notorious outlaw Billy the Kid is at large in the territory. If Symonds is to live he must abandon diplomacy and meet violence with violence.
