Will Hadcroft

UK flag (1970 - )

Born in 1970, Will wanted to be a writer from Junior School (1975-1981) onwards. Writing his first book in pen and ink, "Tales From the Shatm", at age 10. He was thrilled when one of his teachers allowed it to be 'loaned out' to another pupil at Library Time! Other hand written stories followed.

In 1997 he wrote regularly for the fanzine "Really Quite Cosmic" and the magazines "Eclipse" and "Classic Television".

During 1998 Will presented a segment of Channel Four Television's "Right to Reply", interviewing Doctor Who Magazine editor Gary Gillatt, BBC Books editor Stephen Cole, and Who Shop proprietor Alexandra Saul.

In 2002, the first edition of his children's novel "Anne Droyd and Century Lodge" was published by CK Publishing Ltd and topped the Bolton book chart.

In 2004 it was republished as an "Asperger adventure" by Jessica Kingsley Publishers, alongside Will's autobiography "The Feeling's Unmutual".

2006 saw Will appearing on the BBC documentary "My Science-Fiction Life" and his comments about "The Tripods" became available as a download from the MSFL web site.

The second in the Anne Droyd series, Anne Droyd and The House of Shadows was published by Nordic in 2008.

Since then Will has begun to get involved with encouraging children to take a look inside a book and read for pleasure along with delivering his "Writing is Exciting" Workshop to schools. His aim is to encourage young people to read and write for pleasure and at the same time help them understand how life changing something as simple as writing a letter can be.

The Anne Droyd Series feature a group of friends - Gezz, Malcolm and Luke - that find themselves looking after an android called Anne. Along with their thrilling adventures the friends support Anne in her integration into everyday life. Many children find these escapades not only exciting but also help them understand what it might be like to feel "different" or not "fit in" with their peers.

Will currently visits a local High School to support "reluctant readers" and also visit schools for readings and workshops based on the Anne Droyd Series.

Will is now working on the third Anne Droyd novel - Anne Droyd and The Ghost of Winter Hill along with new children's story.
