Wendy Barlow has nowhere to go. She has finally ended it with her narcissistic boyfriend, but she has nothing to her name not a penny. Her only hope is Andy, her best friend. However, with two toddlers, a husband, her husband’s brother, and a baby on the way, Andy’s house is already more than full. Luckily, Andy’s sister, Becca, is back in town, renovating their parents’ Victorian home. That’s how Wendy ends up living with Becca, whom she hasn’t seen since they were kids.
Becca has changed. Her once beautiful, shiny hair is now streaked with gray, and her face is pale and etched with sorrow. Recently widowed after her husband took his own life, Becca has returned to her hometown, but instead of starting a new life, she has developed a troubling case of agoraphobia. Wendy does her best to help, but as the days pass, she begins to notice that some things aren’t quite right.
The house creaks strangely at night, and Becca seems to haunt the rooms is she sleepwalking? Then there’s the light in the garden shed, which turns on at exactly 1 AM every night. Wendy would investigate, but there’s one problem: every evening, she crashes, dead tired. So tired that when sounds wake her, she can’t move.
