The Ants are Coming

(2017)
A novel by

Lopez could not discern which was the red mess of ants and which was blood. Sanchez was acrawl with the terrifying creatures.

When Jane Sewell returns to the Brazilian jungle to help her anthropologist father in his work, it is not the happy reunion she is expecting. She doesn't find the thriving village she remembers.

Just a pile of bones...

Human bones. Picked clean...

... Then the ancient steamboat Falcao chugs into sight. And, for Jane, the horror really begins.

Jane had to stop the scream that welled in her throat. The captain of the ship, Martinez, was slumped over the wheel. His hands still grasped it with such fierceness that the skin was taut enough for the bones of his knuckles to almost pierce through.

His eyes were still wide open and on his face was frozen an expression of hideous anguish. His lips had been so chewed that they were lacerated and bloody. But the face was a death mask.

The bottom of Martinez' legs appeared to have been eaten away. The flesh was mangled and bloody and in some places the bones stood through glistening white.

Only some fierce determination had kept the old man at the wheel of his beloved Falcao until he died where he stood ...

Somewhere, out in the seething jungle, a remorseless army is on the move. And it seems as though nothing can stop its savage, merciless drive.

Relentlessly, inexorably, tearing, rending and consuming everything in their path.

The brutal army of ants tears its way towards a plantation where Jane and those who remained plan to make a final stand...
