Gold Fever

(2009)
(The second book in the Alex Scott series)
A novel by

Treasure Hunter Greg Sing soon discovers that it is impossible to keep secret the news of the vast hoard of gold bullion he uncovered buried on the Philippines islands. Attracting unwanted attention from a ruthless organisation, the 'Syndicate' as well as other dangerous individuals, who will go to any extremes to get their hands on the treasure as 'Gold Fever' spreads like a virulent disease.
Greg's life is in peril until several friends; seeing his incredible discovery as a solution to their own financial catastrophe, come to his aid. Before long however they all become faced with the 'Syndicate's' ability to corrupt almost anyone. With two simple rules 'we only ask once' and 'deliver or die' enhancing their reputation for rewarding success generously but failure terminally. The Syndicate's victim's rarely see any choice but to co-operate; their nemesis however is equally ruthless agent Alex Scott.
Working with an elite Government Agency, dedicated un-corruptible Alex Scott has done battle with the Syndicate before and sees the situation an opportunity to destroy them once and for all.
Alex's Oriental wife, on a visit to her family in Tokyo, unwittingly becomes involved when her police cadet nephew, the son of Tokyo's Chief of Police, is callously murdered.
The distraught Police Chief seeks to take matters into his own hands by organising a formal visit to the Philippines to cover the hunt for his son's killer.
Unaware of the Police Chief's real intentions Alex's wife and her grand-mother accompany him on his trip 'For a little shopping therapy in Manila'.
In the belief that the Tokyo Police Chief knows the whereabouts of the gold; two sadistic opportunists manage to take the women hostage; for several hours they are held in a foul smelling cellar whilst the sadists attempt to negotiate with their lives.
Normally ice cold in any situation Alex's self control is tested to the limit as he brings the situation to a bloody conclusion.
In the meantime the Treasurer Hunter and his friends also pay a terrible price for their involvement, as other ruthless men, fired by their own lust for the gold, join the fray seeking their opportunity to profit from the confusion.
Frustrated by his lack of progress Alex Scott is forced to seek assistance and another agent Chris, is sent to join the team. Yet in spite of Chris's help they continue to be balked in their search for the Syndicate operatives until a chance meeting tips the scales in their favour and finally kick starts the fight back but as the plot thickens treachery almost brings Alex's own career to an abrupt end.
In spite of all their efforts to move the gold to safety and out of the hands of their obsessed pursuers; Treasure Hunter Greg and his colleagues find themselves fighting a loosing battle against overwhelming odds.
All seems lost until Alex Scot's own cunning amoral skills can finally be fully employed and he is able to unmask the traitor and in doing so, account for several of the Syndicate's senior operators in a chilling high octane finale.
