Alice Givens has worked at the Creede Theater for the last couple of years making beautiful costumes and keeping things running smoothly. She's indispensable to her boss, but she's been thinking of going out on her own with her clothing business. She also wouldn't mind the chance to fall in love, but her selection of late hasn't been very impressive.

When Deputy Ranse Hawkins came to Creede, he took an oath to protect the citizens of the town, and that includes the pretty seamstress who's being harassed on the street. It's no hardship at all to escort her to work, and he becomes more and more intrigued by her. But ensuring the safety of the town sometimes means putting yourself in harm's way, something he knows all too well.

Mrs. Morgan has taken it upon herself to oversee the romantic well-being of all the lonely hearts in Creede. What can she arrange for these two independent spirits?
