Neither survived the loss of him letting her go
When Alpin Hart became laird, he inherited more than his father’s title, he inherited the weight of an entire clan. His past convinced him he couldn’t find the balance between the duty to his clan and protecting the woman he loved. Because of that, he made the hardest choice of his life. He let her go.
Effie MacIntosh never expected to return to Hartsmoor Castle. Especially after Alpin shattered her heart and walked away from the future they had planned together. Her brother insisted she join him at a clan gathering held on Hart lands, and she soon found herself face-to-face with the man she cannot forget. He’s colder. Harder, and burdened by grief and responsibility. Yet, somehow he can still make her heart race with a single look.
As old feelings reignite, her brother pushes her to a new suitor, one that is honorable, dependable, and will ensure the survival of her clan. He’s everything that Effie should want, but she has a choice to make. As danger descends upon Hartsmoor and threatens the lives of the people within, can Alpin and Effie make the right choice? Or will they let their past ruin a future that is worth fighting for?
