Risk Aware

(2026)
A novel by

From Emily Alter comes a sapphic high angst romance between two victims who refuse to play the game society expects, no matter the cost.

I was broken. She wasn’t.

I didn’t understand how she did it, or how I actually felt about it.

It didn’t matter.

At the end of the day, I knew we were on borrowed time.

There was no leaving, no happy ending.

Until the day came.

A different fight.

A different set of oppressors and barriers to the future I, maybe, for the first time in decades, dared to dream about.

But she needed to be here for it.

I needed to get her here.

To make up for all the years of pretending she wasn’t my reason to stay alive.

Note: while at its core, Risk Aware stays true to Emily’s brand (kink, queerness, community), it touches on heavier topics than their backlist. Please check out the content warnings and preface at the beginning of the book. There are way too many bad actors and the characters face too much trauma that might be difficult to read about. This isn’t a book where two women find they have compatible kinks and chemistry and ‘simply’ explore that, even if they eventually do that, too.

Genre: Gay Romance
