In the 60's Harry Stein planted "victory gardens" in police stations, pot in every chicken dinners for politicians, His underground tome "Smoke This Book" was the guide for serious cannabis horticulturalists. Nowadays (set in 2000) at age fifty, he has traded the custody of joints for joint custody of his 15 year-old daughter; held hostage to a straight life by his ex wife. But when the beautiful girl friend of a young cultivator comes to him to recover a crop of stolen weed (Stein's own hybrid), he is torn. And when she is murdered, Stein is pulled back into his old world of 60's characters, some who have sold out, others who have burned out. The trail takes him to the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam, where he gets high for the first time in years, solves the murder in the daze, and forgets the solution when he wakes up; putting him and his daughter in life-threatening danger. All this while, his day job forces him to follow a trail of counterfeit designer shampoo, the epitome of everything that has gone wrong with the world. The two plots merge unexpectedly, putting his life and his daughter's life in jeopardy.
