Murder Comes Back

(1940)
(The sixth book in the Spike Tracy Mystery series)
A novel by

"She was quite dead - had been dead for some hours. Now, Inspector, do you understand what I mean when I say I had an acute attack of deja vu?"

Spike Tracy is bored. Fortunately, a chance visit to his friend Inspector Herschman turns up a fascinating case when the Inspector receives a mysterious summons from one Dr. Horatio Pennypacker, who tells them that they must hurry to the flat of Moira Ballinger - a thoroughly unpleasant shopwoman turned millionaire's widow. Pennypacker explains that Mrs. Ballinger has been killed in circumstances closely resembling her late husband's apparent suicide some years previously - and that he has the murderer locked up in Mrs. Ballinger's living room...

Originally published in 1940, this lively golden age murder mystery is another in the series featuring Harriette Ashbrook's amateur playboy sleuth, Spike Tracy.
