In the spring of 2022 while hiking in a remote California conservation area, Diane Johnson observes an armed militia practicing for an attack. The men, the self-proclaimed Sons of Jefferson, clash over plans for what they call the Boogaloo. Late that night, one of those young men Diane saw dies of gunshot wounds in the Oroville Hospital emergency department where she is the triage nurse in charge.
Deeply concerned, Diane tells Patrick Warner, an old friend and local cop, what she has witnessed. Hearing this disturbing news, Patrick offers to investigate. He soon informs her that the Sons of Jefferson are planning to kidnap Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris, and Nancy Pelosi during the governor’s State of the State address on International Women’s Day. He urges Diane to lay low and talk to no one else given the imminent danger of the situation.
When Patrick disappears, Diane decides she must somehow stop the Sons of Jefferson. Her actions, though, will place her friends and family in serious jeopardyparticularly Mary, her favorite niece whose mother died in the deadly 2018 California Camp Fire. The more Diane uncovers, the more peril she and her loved ones are in. Can she use her triage skills to avert a violent political plot and at the same time confront her own dark past?
