(2023)
A novel by

As a child, Indie was dragged across Europe by her mother, Cassie, who used her as a lure in con games.

Now grown, Indie has cut herself off from her grifter mother, turned her life around, and opened a fabulous clothing boutique in a ritzy Connecticut town. When Cassie suddenly reappears in Indie’s life claiming to be reformed and asking for a job in the store, Indie can’t say no fast enough.

Cassie is persuasive, though, and Indie craves the opportunity to be in charge for once. She hires her mom on a trial basis. To her surprise, things go smoothly, and Cassie is an asset in the store.

As they move toward a new sense of connection, Cassie reveals her motives for coming back into her daughter’s life. Long-hidden secrets emerge, throwing both of them into emotional turmoil. Indie tries to untangle truth from lies and regain solid footing in her relationships, but her skills for telling the grifters from the victims are put to the test. She finds herself confronting the question: Is love just a con?
