One broken soldier. One fierce woman. One mountain that might just heal them both.
Echo
He was the recruit left standing alone at his unit’s tap out. When I approached, his haunted eyes stared into the distance and I couldn’t leave him without a touch on his shoulder. Or a day without celebration. So I take him to my favorite fishing spot. Then he’s deployed, leaving nothing behind but a soft smile and memories I can’t shake. I’ve tried to move on, to forget, but no man ever affected me like him.
I’ve returned to the cabin that no longer belongs to me, and the lake that holds so many memories. I need to figure out what comes next in my life. I never expect to find him again.
Magnus
Echo was my light when everything was darkest. Stubborn and sweet, she showed me a world I wanted to come back to. I’d wanted to write, to call, but war has a way of disintegrating hope. When I returned state side, I ran. To the lake she loved, where she handed me a fishing pole and gave me peace. I never believed I''d see her againuntil she shows up like a sunrise, all curves and fire. And just as lost as me.
Now we've found each other again on the same mountain, both running from the past, aching for what we’ve lost. Sparks fly hotter than a campfire and old wounds threaten to reopen. Can we discover our future or will the past steal our second chance?
