On the death of her parents, Louise Saville travels from France to come and live in an English Manor house as ward of her uncle and aunt. From the very first moment, Louise senses her aunt's hatred of her, and feels a desperate urge to run away. When her kindly uncle dies the atmosphere at the Manor becomes even more strange and sinister, Louise realises she is the victim of a web of intrigue and evil, a prisoner of the Manor.
