Max, the night attendant at Bakersfield Morgue in California, was blissfully unaware of events unfolding somewhere, out there, in the vastness of the universe. There was a meeting of two individuals and it appeared that one had malicious intent upon the other.
Having set an elaborate trap for his long-time nemesis, it seemed he was successful trapping his quarry in a timeless trap for eternity. This will now allow both him and other interested parties free range to exercise their ambitions upon Earth and the Sun.
Max’s peace was shattered when the paramedics and police brought in the body of an attractive young woman in a body bag. A fisherman had spotted the body floating face-down in a river. He waded in and dragged her out, while others called the paramedics and police even though they could discern no signs of life.
She was of oriental appearance and looked to be uninjured and was wearing a red dress and nothing else. The paramedics worked on her at the riverside to no avail, and a doctor was called. Over an hour later, she arrived at the local morgue in a bag on a gurney listed as Jane Doe.
Once the initial paperwork was completed, the paramedics and police retired through the double-locked security door system. Max was alone with the single most attractive young woman he had seen in a long time. As her arrival had interrupted his snack, he returned to the office to finish his food and his comic book before preparing the body a chore he was much looking forward to.
Once more he was interrupted. This time, as he went to investigate, he was shocked to see the girl standing next to the slab upon which they had placed her looking very much alive, albeit somewhat confused.
Despite his insistence that she remain for the police, she calmly walked out of the double-locked security doors into the night to set off a chain of events that would change lives especially that of young Cally Green.
Meanwhile, at about the same time in Tofino on the Pacific Rim of British Columbia, Cally Green is having a mini-crisis over her inability to provide her future mate with children. She decided that she needed a break and set out to see whether she can find the answer in a University course in Victoria. We first met Cally when she was Callum and living in England as a boy. (See Queen of Hearts Book 1).
Max calls the police, who in turn notify the FBI. The young Chinese girl proves to be anything other than a plain Jane Doe as she reveals qualities more suitable for one of Max’s comics. She is here on a mission, and nobody on Earth could stop her.
