Lily Dryden wants to somehow relieve her family, after her father's business has gone bankrupt due to poor investment and gambling, so she gets a job as a companion to a Viscountess, who is a distant relative of her father. Lord Andrew Albrecht is the first son of a rich family. After his father’s death, Andrew inherited his title but also a huge amount of responsibilities, having to take proper care of title, business, and family.
Lily travels to Bath so that she can help the Viscountess, and keep her company, when a terrible storm takes place, becoming the reason for her to meet Lord Andrew for the first time, who falls in love with her and continuously finds excuses to spend more time with her, while Lily becomes more and more likable by her aunt, and less liked by her cousin, Lord Edmonstone.
Lord Thomas, being spoiled as the family's only child is using his mother and only comes home when only he needs money for his gambling habits. After his mother asks Lily and Lord Albrecht to put some logic in him, he fears his days of fun and gambling are soon going to be over soon and he will try everything in order to separate Lily and Andrew so that he can continue manipulating his mother.
