Legendary gunghter Dolf Morgette, returning from Alaska to Idaho for his son's wedding, learns he may be coming home for a funeral instead. Junior Morgette, marshall of Pinebluff, has been dry-gulched and lies near death. On his worried journey home Dolf's friends saddle him with enough law-keeping chores for ten men: to stop rustling in the Quarter Lien, track down the thieves stealing Wells Fargo gold, and bring some peace back to rowdy Pinebluff.

Fortunately, the town's most famous son can rely on his brother Matt, Doc Hennessey, his father-in-law Chief Henry, the indomitable Mum, and other colorful characters from his past. He'll need their help, because when the range is crawling with outlaws it takes more than quick shooting to survive - though Dolf is still the best at that.

The senior Morgette's bulldog determination and raw guts nally break up the local lawlessness with a range cleanup that leaves several cow thieves hanging, and several bandits wishing they'd never tried to take on the tough Morgette clan.
