She's never thrown a punch. And he isn't allowed to fight for her.
Mara Rask has been Redwater's healer for forty years. For four of those years, her pack was secretly selling other wolves for money. Now the old Alpha is dead, the money is gone, and Mara is suddenly in charge. Winter is coming, two hundred wolves are hungry, and any one of them can challenge her for the job any morning. By pack law, she has to say yes.
Help comes from the last place anyone expected. The rival Blackpine pack sends one wolf north: Brody Hollis, a huge, sunny-natured enforcer who was shot by Redwater wolves just months ago. He walks into their territory alone, and the second Mara catches his scent, she knows he's her fated mate. So does everyone watching.
But Redwater is far from Brody's home pack, and out here his wounds won't heal. Every cut and bruise stays with him. And the men who used to buy Redwater's wolves want the business back. They already know who Brody is.
He can take every hit meant for her. But when someone finally challenges Mara, pack law is clear: no one can fight in her place.
