In the past, we find the answers ...

In
The Hope of Sorrows we experience the beginning—of the Age of Systematic Reason … of the gestation firms … and the beginning of the end of life as we know it.

In the world of
Altered, rules must be followed without fail and the gestation firms control everything. Families have been dissolved as easily as the elderly, and innocent children have been turned into slaves.

This is the promised land Josiah Northup spent his life crafting. It is his masterpiece … his and Bakhita’s, the woman who was always by his side. Together they
perfected the world and the humans in it.

Through
The Hope of Sorrows we begin to understand who Josiah Northup is from the perspectives of the two most important women in his life: his wife, Amelia, and the woman who knows him far better, Bakhita.

While Amelia struggles to survive a life she never expected, Bakhita grows in power and prestige. Through the decades we see how quickly things fall apart—or from Josiah’s perspective, fall into place.

Yet hope is there … even in the moments of greatest sorrow.

The Hope of Sorrows is a collection of three short stories in the Altered series. It takes place several decades prior to Altered. It is a clean dystopian read.
