Evie DeWitt is tired of everyone treating her like she’s fragile—well, everyone except her boss, Jules Forrester.

Jules is gruff, abrupt, reserved, and best of all? He knows nothing about her past. He doesn’t cast worried looks in her direction, doesn’t question her ability to travel the world, doesn’t think her run-down apartment is a portal to questionable death. He doesn’t seem to like her very much, and she’s just desperate enough for something real, that it’s refreshing.

When Evie’s grandma runs afoul of a shady business, Evie begs Jules to represent her in court. But when one small mistake causes her grandma to be put in danger, Jules feels obligated to protect her. And what better place to hide away than the small island town of Winterhaven, Alaska?

Jules Forrester never should have agreed to represent Evie’s grandma, but in the two years Evie’s worked for him, she hasn’t asked for anything. She’s sunny even when he give her extra work, sings off-key with her headphones in, and never tries to flirt with him like his last three assistants.

When Evie insists on coming to Winterhaven, there’s no time to refuse. It’ll be no big deal. They can lay low, and he’ll play bodyguard, until this all blows over. Turns out it’s impossible to lay low in Winterhaven—at least for these two.

Jules’s carefully ordered life is unraveling one disaster after another, but he’s drawn to Evie, though she’s hiding something from him.

And Evie’s grandma is harboring a secret too—one that could expose them all.
