Lady Arabella Wyndham has the grand misfortune of having, not one, but two broken engagements. Ridiculed by Society, she decides to remove herself from London and spend a quiet Christmas with her grandmother in the countryside. She hopes for a respite from her unrelenting thoughts, knowing she is destined for spinsterhood, but her grandmother has other plans.
Colin Notley, the Earl of Barrett, returned from the war a broken man. He is miserable managing his estate and longs to return to his regiment. That all changes when he sees Arabella again.
