The Sea Egg

The Sea Egg

(1967)
A novel by

It was a magical morning when the lobster man showed Toby and Joe the egg-shaped stone he had found in his catch. They placed the egg in a sheltered pool of sea water. There they hoped that whatever it might be-- sea serpent, sea ogre, sea genie, or perhaps a sea horse-- could hatch in secrecy and safety. After the egg had hatched began a time of wonder and joy and fulfillment for Toby and Joe. With the companion that the sea had given them, the two young brothers learned to swim like sea creatures themselves. It was on the last night of Toby and Joe's holiday that their companion shared with them the most remarkable experience of all-- one that by its very uncommonness affirmed forever their belief in their unusual comrade.
