Her supernatural heritage makes her very existence a death sentence. Especially when she catches the king’s eye as his future queen. These days, Kyra has only one motto in life: survive. Which is difficult when you’re an exiled ley mage living on a continent where literally everyone would kill you if they discovered what you are. Still, she manages to live a quiet life as a human until she makes a terrible mistake that reveals what she is in front of the worse person possible. The province’s king himself.

King Caius will never truly rule so long as his mother lives. Neither will he ever be safe, but killing a woman backed by his most influential nobles is no simple matter. Until he discovers a ley mage secretly living in his province. Her insidious abilities could rid of him of not only his mother, but all her most powerful allies without any suspicion being cast upon him. And he has the perfect excuse to get her into the castle—having her pose as his fiancee. Or he’ll expose her for what she is and have her killed.

But working so closely together when your races are mortal enemies isn’t easy. Especially when Caius and Kyra realize how similar—and compatible—they are with their clever (conniving) and practical (ruthless) methods for dealing with their enemies. Before achieving their goals, they both realize they’re in with each other too deep to walk away. But that doesn’t solve the problem of what Kyra is, and if the other rulers of Darkhaven, never mind the rest of the continent, find out, it could mean war.

Dark Contract is a no spice romantasy featuring enemies to lovers, a fake engagement, and a forbidden romance between a morally gray hero and heroine. While the books all take place in the Darkhaven territory, each book can be read as a standalone.
