Comanchero Rendezvous

Comanchero Rendezvous

(1999)
A novel by

For gallantry at Shiloh Major John Willard gained respect in high places. After the Civil War, he was assigned special duty by the president himself which was to take him to the Staked |Plains in Texas. The region was repellent and menacing, a land of death inhabited by Indians and outlaws. Willard had never visited it, nor so far as he could ascertain, would any law-abiding person. Yet his mission was to lead him into the wildest depths.
Here was the stronghold of an embittered band of ex-Confederates who refused to admit the legitimacy of the Appomattox surrender and continued the war by inciting the Indians to attack the Federal Army. Willard's mission was to bring peace to the region. But the complications he encountered aboard the Bayou Belle threw everything into jeopardy, almost cost him his life and, when he met railroad magnate Edward Sanderson and his mysterious jade-eyed daughter Lorena, plunged him into a dark world of secrets.
