What I don’t say is that it’s the first real vacation Holden and I have ever taken together—the first time we’ve had more than a few stolen days in December to pretend the rest of the world doesn’t exist. We’re usually only ‘us’ for a weekend.
But when a snowstorm shuts down the mountain, we end up detouring to a cozy little inn straight out of a Christmas movie—complete with a Mrs. Claus'''looking innkeeper, a plate of gingerbread cookies, and exactly one room left.

And maybe the universe itself.The whole town seems convinced we’re newlyweds, and it’s hard to convince them otherwise. Especially when Holden looks at me like I’m home, and for a couple of quiet nights surrounded by twinkle lights, cinnamon, and a promise to stop living life through a filer, I almost believe I could be.
We could be home to each other. It’s only supposed to be a weekend. But it feels like a lifetime I’m not ready to give back.
