Fort Bridger's War

(2022)
(The second book in the Chris Weaver Western series)
A novel by

This direct sequel to ‘Devil’s Gate Station’ finds Chris Weaver accompanying his new love, Ellie Teal, on her journey to a fresh start in Oregon.

Unfortunately, the wagon train is beset with problems. Winter comes early in the Rockies, and due to various delays earlier in the trek they realise that they must pass the next few months at Fort Bridger, but not before they have to fight off an attack by murderous road agents, intent on stealing their valuables. Only Weaver’s lethal expertise with his Navy ‘Sixes’ prevents the situation from taking a dark turn.

But then there is the fact that this year of 1860 is about done, and the nation is soon to go to war with itself. And Weaver is the first to recognise the danger of having two Southern-born officers in command of the isolated outpost. When a passing Pony Express rider brings the news that a certain Mister Lincoln has been chosen as the next president, he realises that big trouble is coming for the settlers. Because, with a fort full of weapons and gunpowder, the Southerners were only short of wagons to transport it, and Ellie’s massive Conestoga seems heaven sent. But to obtain that, they will first have to deal with Chris Weaver and, as so many have found out before, that is easier said than done!
