Chapter 1:
Isaac woke up in the middle of the night and stretched. He quietly stepped out of his bed and lit a candle. Then he pulled on his pants and raised his window. He climbed out onto the ledge, and although his footing was shaky, he was able to maneuver himself from his second-floor window down to the ground. He ran through the bushes and he didn't look back.
Once he reached the secret place in the field, he got down to the ground and started to dig, with the stick at first and then with his hands. Finally, he snatched it out of the dirt, dusted it off and checked the batteries to see if it was still working. He stuck the earbuds into his ears and pressed Play. A burst of loud music totally awakened him and he danced under the moonlight until he was tired. Finally, he rested on the grass listening to soft music until it was nearly dawn.
He dreamed that he was a famous rock star and that he had fans catering to his every whim. He slept peacefully as the words to songs appeared in his mind. They were crystal clear and in the dream, he had written them down. He sang about love and he sang about pain. But then someone came up to him and asked why he wasn't singing about Gott.
