When the town librarian is an avid mystery and true-crime reader, the local law enforcement must need a book-smart assistant like her, right?

With Easter early this year, the towns around Newfound Lake are stuck somewhere between winter, mud season and a hint of spring. Kenny Towne, Chief of Police, decides the best way to spend the afternoon of Easter Sunday is on a surprise adventure with his fiancé, Rebecca, and his two daughters, learning how to make maple syrup. When you live in New Hampshire, it’s practically required to know everything about the lakes, apple picking and maple sugaring. To accomplish his surprise, Kenny calls in a favor from an old-school sugarmaker who only uses traditional methods passed down from his ancestors. The weekend goes off without a hitch, until April first rolls around.

Rebecca Ramsey hosts April Fools’ Day events at the library full of pranks and practical jokes. Tables turn on her as she discovers a body that may or may not have been intentionally harmed. The investigation becomes daunting because it appears no one wants the mystery solved but her.

When her fiancé seems to be missing in action, she takes matters into her own hands. The list of suspects makes her wonder… is maple syrup thicker than blood?
