When the town librarian is an avid mystery and true-crime reader, the local law enforcement must need a book-smart assistant like her, right?

Summer is in full swing around Newfound Lake, which means some weeks are pretty boring in the Towne household. With Kenny’s two daughters sharing half of the summer with Heather, their mother, every other week is quiet and low-key for Rebecca and Kenny. The library is running without any issues, and the influx of summer visitors raise the workload for the emergency services personnel as predicted. On a random Sunday evening, they now have time to go out to a nice dinner to celebrate three years of working together on crimes around the region, even if Kenny shows up still in uniform.

When Rebecca gets a last-minute request to attend a funeral with Mary, a much-loved library volunteer, she is able to pivot in order to support her friend. The funeral, however, isn’t about grieving; it’s about drama. The widow and sister of the deceased certainly don’t see eye to eye, and a potentially related death in the area causes everyone to question what’s going on.

Is the timing of the death in town suspiciously related to the return of a former resident, or are locals looking to capitalize on rumors and history to cover up something more nefarious?
