When the town librarian is an avid mystery and true-crime reader, the local law enforcement must need a book-smart assistant like her, right?

Independence Day. Fourth of July. More sugar than any kid needs! Whatever you call it, the parade and fireworks associated with early summer are always the most public displays of patriotism, and the Newfound Farmers' Market happens to fall smack dab in the middle of them. Librarian Rebecca Towne and her blended family plan to celebrate it all!

When Rebecca takes her two stepdaughters to the farmers' market, everyone finds something they enjoy; Melanie and Megan get their faces painted, and Rebecca gets some time to stroll amongst the vendors. One of the library patrons, Mildred, joins the stroll, allowing Rebecca to notice her struggling physically. Taking matters into her own hands, she tries to get help for Mildred, but it's too late.

Will Rebecca's efforts to wrap up loose ends find new fur-ever homes for Mildred's two lonely felines, or will she also uncover a more sinister plot lying beneath the surface?
