Sally Duckworth isn't having the best night. She's already lost her phone and now she has to go back to the hotel with her husband Marcus. But she's about to discover that some London hotels are hiding horrific secrets.

From the moment Sally and Marcus step into the lift, they can tell that something feels wrong. And when the lift breaks down they feel as if their night can't get any worse. Soon, however, they realise that this isn't just any old lift. For more than a century, the lift at this particular hotel has been at the heart of several strange events and tragedies. This is a lift that has seen more than its fair share of ghosts.

Sally and Marcus soon find themselves trapped in a battle for survival. The hotel's night porter, speaking to them over the emergency system, is no help at all, while the mysterious Bridget arrives to raise more questions than answer. Meanwhile the hotel's corridors, even in the middle of the night, are far from empty. Some of the previous guests are still lurking, many years after they either checked out... or were carried out in body bags.

What strange force really controls the lift? How are the night's events connected to a series of horrific deaths? And will Sally and Marcus make it out alive before yet another tragedy strikes the hotel?

Midnight is the fifth book in the Haunting of London series, a collection of stand-alone but loosely linked horror stories set over the course of one ghostly twenty-four-hour period in the city.
