Slovenia has declared independence, but Jovana hasn't given up on keeping the rest of Yugoslavia together. Ordained by her father to lead what is left of the country, she has uncovered evidence of a Serb plot for ethnic cleansing. She heads for Croatia to face a tangled web of alliances as she tries to stop the fighting; her adoptive brother Hristijan and their hard-fighting sidekick Mojca may be the only friends she can count on as they race against time to the endangered city of Dubrovnik. Will they be able to stop the violence and outwit the elite secret police team that's now hot on their heels?

Predrag's quest to capture Jovana ended in failure, but at first it looks like that may have been enough to win back his place in Serbia's ruling class. Then, a shocking reversal strips him of his rank in the Yugoslav People's Army. Now a fugitive, he must struggle to survive on the margins of the fighting. Seeking redemption, the bastard son of Serbia's president comes face to face with the human suffering caused by his father's plan to take over Yugoslavia by force. His fate may be in the hands of his vengeful half-brother, Zlatko, who has embarked on his own mission to kill Jovana and cleanse Yugoslavia of its enemies.

As the conflict in Yugoslavia escalates, Jovana and Predrag find themselves on the front lines, at risk of being named enemies by both sides; they begin to question whether the side they are on is really the right one.
