The Case of the Uncomfortable Train Seat

(2013)
(The first book in the Teddy Brutus Mysteries series)
A novel by

Teddy Brutus - schoolboy sleuth, antiquarian, aspiring man of mystery - has a problem. He is being hunted by a killer.

Summoned to a midnight rendezvous in the graveyard of St Rupert's Church, Grimsthorpe, he arrives to witness the murder of his contact, the eccentric Mr Prendergast, dealer in antiquities.
DI Bill Testerosa of the Grimsthorpe Constabulary is convinced that Teddy himself is the murderer, undeterred by lack of evidence, motive or means.
Of greater concern to Teddy is the suspicion that the killer knows Teddy saw the murder and might be able to reveal his identity. Teddy has no idea who the murderer is, but realises that he has to find out - and quickly.
Why did a terrified-sounding Mr Prendergast telephone Teddy on the evening of the murder? And why the secret rendezvous?
To help him in his hunt, Teddy knows that he can rely on two good friends and fellow pupils at Grimsthorpe College, the portly young epicurean Pinkerton Blake, and the diligent and bookish Felix Kunakoshi. With bespectacled and wild-haired Jenny Seabottle as the final addition to their group, the hunt is on.
From the graveyard scene of the murder, to the dead man's shop; to a seaside town and a derelict mansion, Teddy and his crew unravel a tale of thwarted love, revenge and murder stretching back to a lost time and to the distant land of the Pharaohs.
