Deena Johnson stumbles over the body of her murdered husband. She thought narcissism and an obsession with multilevel marketing was all Russell was guilty of. But Russell's obsession drove him to blackmail. He learned the secrets of many people in the town, secrets at least one person would kill to keep quiet.

When Deena learns her husband sank all their finances into MLM, she's told fifty-seven is too young to take her husband's social security. She's got to get a job, but she's also determined to find the killer.

In walks Sheriff Liam Jacob, Deena's high school crush, who never knew she existed. Deena hasn't stopped caring about Liam all through her troubled marriage. Now, he's noticing her, but Liam's ex-wife wants him back, and she won't let Deena stand in her way.

The killer wants Deena to mind her business or else. Someone tries to frame Deena for the murder, and Deena's new puppy, a gift from Liam, is her protector one minute and leading police to incriminating evidence the next.
