Candlesticks and Corpses
(2026)(The ninth book in the Willa Honeycutt Mystery series)
A novel by B J Cade
Trick or Treat, Murder or Mayhem
Just Another Halloween in Harmony Hollow.
The dead bodies at Evan Wexler’s haunted mansion were supposed to be fake.
Evan Wexler’s wasn’t.
I was dropping off cookies for the fundraiser when I overheard Evan and the charity director a deadline of ‘until Sunday or else’ and it sounded like blackmail.
Several hours later, he was dead.
Sheriff Jack Gilmore would prefer I stay out of it. But every question I ask turns up another person who wanted Evan gone.
The charity director had plenty to lose if Evan talked and his brother has been nursing a family grudge for years.
Then my Aunt Syl spotted someone skulking around in a ghostly bride costume before the haunt was even officially open, and someone left a warning tucked under her windshield wiper:
STOP TALKING ABOUT WHAT YOU SAW OR ELSE.
Naturally, Aunt Syl keeps talking.
When my German Shepherd, Sadie, starts nosing at a hidden passageway like it owes her money, I have to wonder what else Wexler House is hiding.
And when someone traps Aunt Syl inside that passage beneath a pile of collapsed shelves, it’s clear the killer isn’t bluffing.
If I don’t unmask Evan’s killer soon, Aunt Syl could be the next real corpse at Wexler House.
Genre: Cozy Mystery
