The church smelled like white lilies. They were everywhere, on the altar, around the casket, tucked into bouquets clutched by trembling hands. Ms. Ella would’ve loved it. She loved simple beauty, the kind that didn’t need to scream to be heard.

But me? I couldn’t see the beauty in anything. Not today.

I stood at the front, staring down at the casket like if I just focused hard enough, she’d sit up and scold me for frowning. My chest was tight, my fists tighter. People whispered behind me, murmured prayers, they offered hugs I didn’t feel. They thought I was in shock.

I wasn’t. I was disassociating.

There’s nothing more dangerous than a mother with nothing left to lose. And if you’re foolish enough to come between her and her children, you’ll learn that her love isn’t just soft, it’s lethal. A mother’s love would make her claw through hell, burn kingdoms, and spill blood without blinking. It would strip her of fear, morality, and mercy.

And when that mother had built her pride, her identity, her entire soul around protecting her children, fucking with her was like asking the devil himself to make house calls.

I kissed Ms. Ella’s casket, let my lips linger on the cool wood, and whispered a promise meant for her and for me. Then I walked out of that church with a new purpose, leaving the old me buried in the ground with her.

Now, I didn’t want peace. I didn’t want closure.
I wanted my daughter back.

And I’d tear the world apart until I found her.

These weren’t just the sins of a mother.

These were . . . Sevyn’s deadly sins.
