Mitch and Joanne run a very successful dating service in San Diego. Although they have come close to intimacy, their relationship has remained platonic. Then, Mitch has a heart transplant and meets Marla, the pregnant fiance of his donor. Marla, a political campaign, and a client party disrupted by laughing gas, drive Mitch and Joanne farther apart.
