Maeve Kelly loves being with her sister Aine and her family, but sees no future possible for herself in the New York tenement where Irish are forced to live. She answers an ad for a mail order bride and travels to Texas. When she arrives, she refuses to wed the disgusting man who meets her accompanied by his two brothers. She has to run to escape the trio. The blacksmith protects and helps her. She insists on indenturing herself to the blacksmith who repays her unwanted groom the fare he provided.
Levi Iverson has no wish to wed yet. At 28, he plans to wait until he turns 30 and has accumulated more funds before he marries, although he already owns many real estate properties. Maeve’s determination on a crazy plan to repay him for rescuing her annoys him. Worse, it sets tongues wagging. His parents insist he has ruined Maeve’s reputation forever by letting her work in his home. With reluctance, he gives in and asks Maeve to marry him, but matters are taken from his hands.
A desperate situation for Maeve causes Levi to re-evaluate his feelings. Can he rescue Maeve before it’s too late?
