Darius sets sail for England and a well deserved rest and shore leave for the officers and crew of the frigate Nyaden. However, before they reach home shores, they encounter something unexpected and his duty to king and country has him turn the ship around again and sail south. What happens there brings him to the attention of the First Sea Lord who assigns him a task which, if carried out successfully, will earn him a knighthood. He reluctantly accepts the commission but quickly learns that the dangers of confronting a French battle fleet is nothing compared to surviving the jealousy of his fellow officers and the antagonism of the Commander in Chief.
