Town secrets. Whistling pine trees. Legends that involve kissing hot guys.

Whistle Pine Falls has it all.

Anna

The new kid has things to learn:

You can’t park on the cirque overnight, or your car will break out in bird poop. Don’t say the word flip-flops to Mr. Gregerson, or he’ll braid your hair and then shout profanities over your shoulder. In that order. Avoid tourists by hiking early in the morning. Smile when you pass Whistler Pete. And don’t ask questions about our mayor. You won’t get any answers.

I know all of this because I’m the girl who knows about Whistle Pine Falls. Even though I try not to sound like I do—I do. 100%. Just don’t tell anyone.

But maybe the new kid has some things to teach me—the definition of sleuthing, for one, and how to do it. Spying on my dad wasn’t how I had planned to spend the last weeks of my summer, but the man is hiding something. So we’re going to find out what it is, and I think staying flexible with my time is an essential part of being student body president. I have to get voted in this year. Even if it means spending time with Benson, the new kid in town—and his nice hair—I have to make my parents proud.

I just wish the town legend we heard wasn’t so distracting. Because kissing the new guy would be . . . Ahem. Terrible, of course. A hideous disaster.

Though, cleaning up messes is kind of my thing.

Benson

There’s something off about this town. What is the deal with the lunch lady on horseback, the ice cream parlor psychic, and the rude town tour guide? And the unspoken thing no one will talk about?

Plus, no one knows anything about the town mayor.

Don’t misunderstand; the towering mountains and dense pines are beautiful. The residents are great, and the tourists are fantastic for people-watching. But the thing that doesn’t fit the most are the glasses covering Anna Burke’s pale, intense eyes. She knows everyone and everything about this place, but what’s she hiding behind those dark frames and falsely cheery attitude?

There’s only one way to find out, but I’m afraid that the town legend we heard may distract me from finding the truth. Because kissing Anna Burke would be . . .

Incredible.

The problem is, I wouldn’t be able to kiss a girl like her just once. That would be like Whistler Pete missing his evening call to Wilma. Impossible.

Want to meet the residents of Whistle Pine Falls? Want to hear what all the mystery is about? Come visit Whistler Pete and find out if Benson James will be able to unravel the riddle that is Anna Burke. And maybe grab a souvenir or two.
